EU Law Integration

Georgia has an EU Association Agreement (in force since 2016), which includes a Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA). Georgia is implementing extensive EU acquis approximation as part of this agreement, and applied for EU membership in March 2022.

Key alignment areas:

• Data protection: Georgia's Law on Personal Data Protection aligns with GDPR principles; the Personal Data Protection Service (PDPS) is an independent supervisory authority
• Cybersecurity: Georgian cybersecurity legislation is being aligned with EU standards
